Wet bulb calculator
Hello Engpocket friends, do you know about the wet bulb temperature? Before we dig in deeper, you can try the wet bulb calculator first to help you calculate faster in your hurry situation.
This wet bulb calculator based on dry bulb (air temperature) and relative humidity.

Calculate WBT from Air Temp & RH
What is wet bulb temperature?

Wet Bulb temperature is the lowest temperature can be reached by evaporating water into the air.
It can be measured by wrapping a wet cotton wick around the bulb of a thermometer and blowing air into the thermometer. As the water evaporates from the wick, it absorbs heat, causing the thermometer reading to drop.
Analogy of wet bulb temperature
We can use human body as the wet bulb temperature analogy. Think of our body. When we feel hot, we sweat. Why? Because as sweat evaporates from our skin, it takes heat away, cooling us down.
Wet bulb essentially measures how easy is it for water to evaporate on that moment on a project / building / room.
Relationship with humidity
There is a direct relationship between wet bulb, dry bulb and relative humidity (RH):
You can also look at this comparison chart of dry bulb vs. wet bulb vs. relative humidity. This way is the alternative way to imagine and calculate wet bulb temp faster other than using wet bulb calculator.
Effect of Humidity on Wet Bulb
Example Scenario: Air Temperature is constant at 30°C (86°F)| Humidity (RH) | Dry Bulb (Air Temp) |
Wet Bulb (Result) |
Cooling Limit (Difference) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20% (Very Dry) | 30°C | 16.5°C | 13.5°C Drop ❄️ |
| 40% (Dry) | 30°C | 20.8°C | 9.2°C Drop |
| 50% (Standard) | 30°C | 22.7°C | 7.3°C Drop |
| 60% (Comfort) | 30°C | 24.2°C | 5.8°C Drop |
| 80% (Humid) | 30°C | 27.2°C | 2.8°C Drop |
| 100% (Rain/Fog) | 30°C | 30.0°C | 0°C (None) 💧 |
- Low humidity (Dry Air): Water evaporates very fast. The cooling effect is strong, and the result is wet bulb is much lower than dry bulb.
- High Humidity (Wet Air): The air is already full of water. Evaporation runs slow and difficult, and the result is wet bulb is close to dry bulb.
- 100% Humidity (Rain or Fog): Evaporation is not possible at all, and the result is wet bulb equals to the dry bulb.
