What is the under reamed pile foundation??
Under reamed pile foundation is a tubular shape foundation planted deep into the ground. The structure consists of a circular reinforcement cage (rebar) encased in cast concrete shaped into a tube or cylinder. That is why the under reamed pile dwg have the concrete blocks around the rebar.
There are 2 ways to make an under reamed pile foundation, they were bore pile & strauss pile. The difference is:
1. Strauss Pile (Manpower drill)
This under reamed pile type often used for 2-3-residential houses or shophouses foundation.
- How it works: using a simple drill tool rotated with human power which usually consists of at least 2 people.
- The diameter is small, about 20 cm, 25 cm, up to 30 cm.
- The average depth is 6 meters to 10 meters.
- The characteristics of strauss pile foundation is on the bottom of the hole usually foriming a bulb / Under-reamed to strengthen the bearing capacity preventing the foundation from sinking.
2. Bore Pile (Drill machine)
This under reamed pile type used for heavier building loads or if the hard ground is very deep.
- How it works: Using the machine. There are two popular types of machines:
- Mini Crane: small diesel engine with three foot tower. Suitable for luxury housing or 4-5-buildings.
- Big Crane (Rotary Rig): Big machine. Used for skyscrapers or bridges.
- The diameter is large, ranging from 30 cm, 40 cm, 60 cm, even more than 1 meter.
- Depth up to 20 meters or more.
- Its characteristics are usually straight from top to bottom (without bulb), relying on ground friction and end resistance.
